AP World History exam format

For the May 2027 AP World History: Modern exam, the multiple-choice section has 55 questions and counts for 40% of the exam score. Students answer 3 short-answer questions worth 20% in total. The document-based question counts for 25%, and the long essay counts for 15%.

How the AP World grade calculator works

The calculator first converts each raw section result into a percentage. It then applies the official section weights:

Composite = (MCQ % × 0.40) + (SAQ % × 0.20) + (DBQ % × 0.25) + (LEQ % × 0.15)

For practice scoring, the calculator treats the three SAQs as 9 possible rubric points in total, the DBQ as 7 possible points and the LEQ as 6 possible points.

Does the calculator predict an AP score from 1 to 5?

Not as an official result. College Board converts composite performance into the AP 1–5 scale through exam-specific score-setting processes, and there is not one permanent public percentage cutoff that applies every year. For that reason, this page reports a weighted composite percentage rather than presenting an unofficial cutoff as guaranteed.
