AP Grade Calculator

Estimate your AP exam composite percentage from multiple-choice and free-response performance. Adjust the section weights to match your AP subject.

Estimate your AP composite score

Enter your multiple-choice and free-response results, then set the section weights used by your AP subject. The calculator combines them into an estimated composite percentage.

Change this to match your AP exam.

Section weights must total 100%.

Important: there is no single universal percentage cutoff that converts every AP composite score into a 1–5 score. Official cut points vary by exam and are set through College Board scoring processes.

How AP exam scores are calculated

For most AP exams, multiple-choice responses are scored first and free-response work is scored using subject-specific scoring guidelines. The section results are combined into a composite score. That composite is then converted to the official AP 1–5 scale through score-setting processes designed for each exam.

Because AP subjects use different section structures, weights and score boundaries, a single universal percentage-to-AP-score chart is not accurate for every exam.

What AP scores from 1 to 5 mean

AP scoreCollege Board recommendation
5Extremely well qualified
4Well qualified
3Qualified
2Possibly qualified
1No recommendation

Many colleges consider scores of 3 or higher for credit or placement, but each college sets its own policy.

Why subject-specific AP calculators matter

AP World History, AP Statistics, AP English Language, AP Biology and other AP exams do not all use the same question counts, section weights or scoring structure. Dedicated subject calculators are therefore more useful when you want a closer estimate for one exam.

Easy Grade Calculator will keep the main AP calculator as a general composite-score tool and use separate pages for subject-specific AP calculators.
