How to use the AP Gov grade calculator

Count your correct multiple-choice answers, then mark each written response using the rubric for your practice exam. Enter the points earned in the matching field and select Calculate AP Gov score. The result shows your weighted percentage and each section’s contribution.

Use the breakdown to plan your next practice session. Change one score to see how improving that question affects the total. Reset clears every field so you can enter a different practice test.

Concept Application3 points12.5%
Quantitative Analysis4 points12.5%

The four written questions have different raw maxima but equal exam weights. Simply adding all 17 free-response points and dividing by 17 would not preserve those equal weights.

How the composite percentage is calculated

Composite = (MCQ ÷ 55 × 50) + (Concept ÷ 3 × 12.5) + (Quantitative ÷ 4 × 12.5) + (SCOTUS ÷ 4 × 12.5) + (Essay ÷ 6 × 12.5).

Worked example

For 44 correct MCQs, 3/3 Concept Application, 2/4 Quantitative Analysis, 2/4 SCOTUS Comparison and 3/6 Argument Essay, the contributions are 40 + 12.5 + 6.25 + 6.25 + 6.25 = 71.25%.

Does 71.25% mean an AP score of 4?

This calculator does not make that conversion. A practice percentage alone does not establish an official 1–5 result. Use the scoring conversion supplied with your particular practice exam when available.

Is this for AP Comparative Government?
