College Grade Calculator

Calculate your current college course grade from assignments, quizzes, labs, projects, midterms and finals. Use percentage weights or points to match the grading method in your syllabus.

Calculate your college course grade

Choose weighted coursework if your syllabus gives percentages to categories or exams. Choose points if your class is graded by total points earned.

Calculation method

Enter each completed category or assessment. Weights can total less than 100% when part of the course is still unfinished.

Use the grading method in your course syllabus for official results. This calculator estimates percentages; it does not assume a universal college letter-grade scale.

How to use the college grade calculator

  1. Check your syllabus. Choose Weighted coursework when assignments, quizzes, midterms or finals have percentage weights. Choose Total points when your class is graded by points earned out of points possible.
  2. Enter completed coursework. Add as many rows as you need. In weighted mode, the entered weights may total less than 100% if the semester is still in progress.
  3. Calculate your college grade. The result shows your current percentage and a breakdown of the work entered.

For official grades, use your instructor’s weighting, rounding and letter-grade rules. College grading policies can differ by course and institution.

College grade calculator formulas

Weighted course grade formula

Current weighted grade = Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ(weights)

Convert percentage weights consistently. If the completed parts of a class total 60% of the course, the calculator normalises those completed weights to show your current average while also showing the remaining 40%.

Points-based college grade formula

Course percentage = Total points earned ÷ Total points possible × 100

Use this method when assignments are added together by points instead of category weights. Extra-credit points can make the percentage exceed 100% if your course allows it.

Example: calculate a college class grade

Suppose a college course uses these weights:

CourseworkGradeWeight
Homework92%20%
Quizzes85%15%
Midterm88%25%
Project94%15%
Final exam90%25%

The weighted result is 89.75%. Your college or instructor may convert that percentage to a letter grade using a course-specific scale.

College course grade vs GPA

A college course grade is the percentage or letter grade you earn in one class. GPA combines grade points from multiple courses and is often weighted by credit hours. Use this page for a single class. For several courses, use the GPA Calculator.
